Filenames (Updated: December 9, 2010)

Filenames for 9 Soundware audio files follow the following conventions:

Loop (Non-rhythmic)A non-rhythmic loop is indicated by the inclusion of its duration (in seconds, rounded off), followed by the abbreviation “s”, in the filename. Samples lasting less than a half a second, such as single cycle waves, are indicated as such with a blank (underscores) in place of the number of seconds preceding the “s”.

One-shotA one-shot sample is indicated by the inclusion of its duration (in seconds), followed by the abbreviation “sec”, in the filename. The number of seconds refers only to the effective duration of the sound event and not its decay tail.

HitA one-shot sound that can be better described as a hit may be indicated as such by the omission of its duration in the filename, with a blank (underscores) in place of the number of seconds preceding the abbreviation “sec”.

VelocityWhen a sound has been sampled at multiple velocities, the samples are labeled with a "v" to indicate multiple velocities followed by a chronological numbering schema, with 1 being of the lowest velocity.

PitchA pitched sample is indicated by the inclusion of the root note and fine-tuning setting which tunes the zone containing the sample to A440. The root note is expressed with two characters (octave number is not included), and immediately following it is the two digit fine-tune setting preceded by a "+" or "-".

ResamplingWhen a patch has been resampled, the resulting audio file is indicated as such with a filename consisting of the name of the source patch (including the extension), followed by the MIDI note number triggered. 9 Soundware products follow the system which designates middle C (MIDI note number 60) as C3.

Loops (Rhythmic)A rhythmic loop is indicated by the inclusion of its tempo (followed by the abbreviation “BPM”) and the number of measures (followed by the abbreviation “M”). Loops are in 4/4 time, unless otherwise noted.
